The hardest part of booking an all-inclusive isn’t the price. It’s that from the website, every resort looks like paradise. The difference between a great trip and a “just okay” one is usually the stuff you can’t see online: how far your room is from the beach, whether you need dinner reservations, how crowded the pools get, and whether the “adults-only” pool is actually quiet.

Mexico or the Caribbean?

Mexico (Cancun, the Riviera Maya, Los Cabos) has easy, affordable flights and lots of resort choice. The Caribbean islands (Jamaica, Saint Lucia, the Dominican Republic, Turks and Caicos and others) each have their own personality, and some are much easier for first-timers than others.
