“I just want everything to be easy.”

Which Bahamas island is best for first-timers?
“The Bahamas” is actually hundreds of islands, and they are not all equally easy. Here’s how I break it down:
- Nassau & Paradise Island: my top pick for a first trip. The most nonstop flights, the biggest choice of resorts, and plenty to do without renting a car.
- Grand Bahama: quieter and more laid-back, with fewer flights. It’s also home to Carnival’s Celebration Key (and the adults-only Pearl Cove Beach Club) if you’re cruising.
- The Exumas: the famous swimming pigs and unreal water, but usually an extra flight or a long day trip. Better for a second visit.
- Eleuthera & Harbour Island: pink sand and total quiet, but harder to get to. Save it for when you know you love the islands.

This is where you go if you want a resort experience…

Do I need a passport?
If you’re flying to any of these islands, yes. U.S. citizens need a valid passport, and it’s smart to make sure it won’t expire soon after your trip. Some closed-loop cruises from U.S. ports allow a birth certificate and ID, but I always recommend a passport.
